BAY CITY, Mich. – Fynn Mewes continued his stellar offensive prowess in the opening weekend of the season, and was named the year's first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The reigning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year scored in both of Roosevelt's contests last weekend, helping lead the Lakers to a 2-0 win over No. 21 Cedarville on Saturday. Mewes scored Roosevelt's only goal in the season-opening tie against Upper Iowa, volleying home a corner kick to tie the game with roughly 15 minutes left.

He was at his best Saturday in the victory, scoring a little more than eight minutes into the game to give the Lakers an early lead. He timed his run perfectly with Nikola Dimitrijevic's header to race in alone into the penalty area and calmly fire the ball into the net. In the second half, Mewes whipped in a corner kick onto Dimitrijevic's head for the insurance marker.

"I am happy to see Fynn continue right where he left off for us this fall," Roosevelt head coach Paddy Hoepp said. "For me, it wasn't just the goals he scored this weekend, more so how he led the team with his attitude defending, winning the ball back and setting the tone for everyone else."

It is surprisingly the first weekly award for Mewes in his Roosevelt career after scoring 10 times last season en route to being named Player of the Year. The Lakers' season continues Wednesday with their first road trip of the year for an 8 p.m. matchup against Missouri St. Louis.
