Mewes Named First-Team All-Region Selection

CHICAGO – Roosevelt graduate student forward Fynn Mewes was named a first-team All-Midwest Region honoree by the Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association, the organization announced Tuesday.

Mewes is the first Lakers student-athlete to be honored by the organization and comes in the program's first year of eligibility for the award. The Bielefeld, Germany native was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year after scoring a league-leading 11 goals with 25 points this season.

He also led the conference with five game-winning goals, three of which came in conference play. Mewes scored nine goals with two assists in 12 matches against GLIAC foes, and he was held off the scoresheet just twice in 11 full games against conference opposition.

Roosevelt was one of five GLIAC schools with an honoree, and one of just three with a first-team selection. Saginaw Valley State had two first-team choices and Davenport also had a first-team pick while Parkside and Northern Michigan both had a pair of second-team selections.

Mewes will now advance to the All-American ballot for D2CCA members to vote upon next week.
