Box Score CHICAGO – In a battle for fourth place in the CCAC Conference and a home first round conference tournament game, the Roosevelt University men's basketball team lost to St. Xavier University by the score of 77-65 on "Senior Night" at the Goodman Center on Wednesday, February 16. The Lakers now own a 12-9 record in the CCAC and a 17-11 record overall this season.
Prior to the start of the contest, the Lakers honored their 2021-22 senior class in a pregame ceremony. Those seniors honored were Ayomide Ajiboye, Anthony Martinez, Matt Myers, Quin Riggins, Jarod Stonis, Eetu Villa, and manager Matt Robinson.
The Lakers held an early 7-4 lead just under three minutes into the game after Jarod Stonis knocked down a three-pointer. However, the Cougars answered with 11 straight points to take a 15-7 advantage with 14:26 to go and pushed their lead to 21-10 two minutes later. Roosevelt then went on a 13-2 run behind nine points from Trenton Kyler to tie the game at 23-23 with just under six minutes remaining in the first half. St. Xavier closed out the final minutes with a 15-5 run to take control and lead 39-28 at the break.
In the second half, the Lakers cut the margin down to as few as six points and then trailed 68-61 with four minutes left to play. Unfortunately, St. Xavier increased its lead back to double-digits and held off the Lakers for the 77-65 conference victory.
