MARQUETTE, Mich. – Roosevelt put forth an offensive showcase despot a 100-87 loss to No. 18 Northern Michigan in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Thursday night in the Upper Peninsula.
The Lakers (4-22, 3-16 GLIAC) Â shot nearly 57 percent from the field in the game and made 8 of 16 from behind the arc in the loss. It was the Roosevelt's best shooting performance of the season, making it the best the Lakers have had against a Division II opponent. It is the fifth time in the past eight games the Lakers have scored at least 80 points, while Roosevelt also set a program record by committing just two turnovers in the game
After falling behind by 11 with 1:33 remaining in the first half, the Lakers ripped off an 8-2 run over the final 90 seconds, capped off by Mikey West's buzzer-beating 3-pointer to make it a five-point game at halftime. In the second half, Roosevelt even trimmed its deficit down to two with 8:33 remaining and kept the Northern Michigan lead in single figures until the final five minutes of the game.
West played all 40 minutes and made 12 of 19 from the field for a team-high 29 points, followed closely by 24 from Dante Sawyer, who was 10 of 17 from the floor. The duo was joined in double figures by Davon Smith-Johnson, who chipped in 15, and Mason Kleinsmith, who added 10 points.
