HOUGHTON, Mich. – Roosevelt's 2025-26 season came to an end Saturday with a 99-72 loss to No. 16 Michigan Tech in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup in the Upper Peninsula.
The Lakers could not dig out of an early deficit after the Huskies went on an 18-0 run after Kaleim Taylor started the scoring with a 3-pointer. The senior finished with 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting, including an impressive 5 of 6 from behind the arc in the game. Taylor shared the team scoring lead with fellow senior Mikey West, who also finished on 17 points.
Davon Smith-Johnson led the effort on the glass with eight rebounds to go along with 16 points. Taylor and Mason Kleinsmith both had six boards while Dante Sawyer grabbed five rebounds to complement his 10 points.
Alex Klemz and Elijah Gbeji both played a season-high nine minutes for the Lakers and both found the scoresheet. Gbeji made a pair of free throws and added a steal and an assist in his fifth appearance of the season. Klemz scored a season-best five points with a first career 3-pointer to go along with a steal and an assist as well.
Roosevelt (4-23, 3-17 GLIAC) is expected to return three players who started at least five games this season, including Smith-Johnson who is the only player to start all 27 games this season for the Lakers. In addition, Hamahrie Bowers, who missed Saturday's loss, and Kleinsmith are expected to come back as well.
