Roosevelt Can't Slow Down Davenport On Road

CALEDONIA, Mich. – Roosevelt struggled to slow down Davenport in an 81-59 setback against the Panthers on Saturday in Michigan.

The Lakers were held scoreless for the final 5:25 of the first half of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup, allowing the Panthers' lead to grow to 10 by halftime. Roosevelt was able to claw back to within single digits with more than six minutes left in regulation, but that was as close as the Lakers would get in the second half.

Mikey West scored half of his team-best 20 points in the first half and it was his jumper that brought Roosevelt within one nearing the five-minute mark. The senior was an identical 4 of 9 in each half as he paced the Lakers offense along with fellow senior Dante Sawyer.

Sawyer added 17 points on 6 of 11 shooting and also led the Lakers (4-19, 3-13 GLIAC) with seven rebounds. Davon Smith-Johnson had six boards and Hamahrie Bowers added eight points – all in the second half – for Roosevelt. Meanwhile, Mason Kleinsmith dished out half of Roosevelt's eight assists in the game in more than 31 minutes off the bench.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt returns to the Goodman Center for its final two home games of the season, starting Thursday with Wayne State at 7:30 p.m.
