Men's Basketball Knocks Off Judson 72-62 for Second Straight CCAC Conference Victory

Box Score

ELGIN, Ill. – The Roosevelt University men's basketball team defeated Judson University by the score of 72-62 on Monday, January 24 at the Lindner Fitness Center to earn its second straight CCAC Conference victory.  The Lakers are now 9-5 in conference play and are 14-7 overall this season.

The two teams traded the lead early on and were deadlocked at 10-10 before the Lakers got back-to-back layups from Justus Mouton and Jarod Stonis to take a 14-10 lead and then pushed their lead to 19-12 after a Trenton Kyler three-pointer and an Andrew Veon layup.  Judson pulled to within 19-17, but Roosevelt took control again and went up 26-17 with 8:08 remaining behind five points from Mouton.  The Lakers increased their lead to 11 points at 30-19 and held the lead the rest of the half, taking a 40-31 advantage into the locker room.

The Eagles scored the first seven points of the second half to make it a two-point game at 40-38 and kept up the momentum, regaining the lead at 53-51 with 9:21 to play and holding a 61-56 advantage with 4:43 remaining.  The Lakers answered back late in the game and took a 63-62 lead on a Kyler three-pointer with just under three minutes to play and upped their lead to 66-62 on a Matt Myers jump shot and a Kyler free throw.  The defensive play of Roosevelt held the Eagles off the board the rest of the way, while its clutch free throw shooting put the game away for the 72-62 win.
