Men's Basketball Loses Heartbreaker in Final Seconds to Saint Francis

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Roosevelt University men's basketball team lost a heartbreaking Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) game to the University of Saint Francis by the score of 80-79 on Friday, Feb. 19 at the Athletic & Convocation Center in Arlington Heights, Ill.

The Lakers erased a seven-point deficit late in the second half and took a 79-78 lead with 1:11 left to play on a Kelvin Cortez-Harvey (JR/South Elgin, Ill.) three-pointer. However, the Fighting Saints were fouled by the Lakers with five seconds to play to go to the line and Carlos Tovia knocked both shots down to vault USF ahead at 80-79. The Lakers rushed down the floor for a last second shot, but Cortez-Harvey's three-point attempt was just off the mark as time expired.

COACH'S QUOTE

"We couldn't get enough stops throughout the game to be able to pull away," said Lakers Head Coach Joe Griffin. "Kelvin, Jarod, and Ayo gave us a great offensive boost and finally kept the turnovers at a reasonable number, but our post defense is still a work in progress as is our overall defense. We have a quick turnaround as we play tomorrow against Trinity Christian."
