Men's Basketball Loses Steam In Second Half, Sees Win Streak Snapped By Olivet Nazarene

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – In a battle between two of the teams near the top of the CCAC standings, 21st-ranked Olivet Nazarene pulled away from the Roosevelt men's basketball team in the second half as the Tigers defeated the Lakers, 83-67, at McHie Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Jake Ludwig led the Lakers (15-10, 9-6 CCAC) with 18 points, while Chandler Fuzak added 12 to go with nine rebounds.

Kevin Day and Quin Riggins had double-digit scoring off the bench with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Nic Reed led all scorers with a game-high 38 points for the Tigers (18-7, 11-4 CCAC), who shot 62 percent (16-for-26) in the second half to break open what had been a stalemate in the first half and snap the Lakers' four-game winning streak.

Bigs Fuzak and Day had big performance in the opening 20 minutes. Fuzak had 12 points and Day had eight as both connected on 2-of-3 attempts from beyond the arc in a closely-contested first half.

While Ludwig was solid with 13 second-half points, the Lakers' shooting cooled significantly. After making 20-plus three-pointers in the previous two games and connecting on 6-of-11 (55 percent) in the first period, the Lakers made just two of 15 three-point attempts after intermission.

The Tigers upped their clip from the floor in the second half, led by another big performance from Reed.

"We got beat in the second half after being tied at halftime," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "We ran out of gas on D and we were cold from the field. Reed was outstanding and we had no answer for him.

"We are excited for a quick turnaround to take another crack at it Monday."

Roosevelt has a day in between Saturday's game and a home contest against St. Ambrose at the Goodman Center this Monday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
