Men's Basketball Cannot Mount Comeback At Cardinal Stritch

MILWAUKEE – The Roosevelt men's basketball struggled from the floor and could not dig out of a double-digit hole on the road at Cardinal Stritch in a 65-50 loss on Panella Court.

Quin Riggins led the Lakers with 13 points to go with six gritty boards from his guard spot, while Bennett Fuzak, Matt Myers and Mark Johnson tallied nine points apiece.

Fuzak and Johnson also had seven boards.

Nemanja Knezevic led all players with 17 points and eight rebounds for the Wolves.

Both teams struggled from the floor during the first half. Roosevelt made just seven of 25 from the floor and four of 15 from beyond the arc. Stritch did not shoot much better, making 10 of its 31 attempts, but that was enough from CSU to go up nine at the break.

The Wolves used an 8-0 run in the middle of the period to break open what had been a one-point game after Josh Redic connected on a three-pointer.

The Lakers could not get hot from the field to close the gap in the second half, and the hosts were able to pull away and keep the Green and White at bay.

"We're still a ways away from playing a full 40, but we did some good things today," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "Our D was good enough to win, but our shooting from three and the free throw line was very bad. Their offensive rebounds [17] killed us.

"This week will be a good practice week with exams taking place."

Roosevelt will have no games on the schedule for a week due to finals. The Lakers' next game will be next Saturday against Calumet St. Joseph in Whiting, Ind.
