CHICAGO – Matt Myers led the Roosevelt men's basketball team with 19 points, but the Lakers were unable to overcome their shooting woes as Indiana Northwest pulled away late for a 79-64 decision inside the Goodman Center on Wednesday night.
Josh Redic and Quin Riggins added 10 points apiece, while Andrew Veon had six points and nine boards for the Lakers (2-12, 2-6 CCAC).
Rashad Richardson led all players with 28 points and 11 rebounds for the RedHawks (10-4, 6-2 CCAC).
Both team faltered from the field during the first half, but Roosevelt's struggles lingered into the second half as the Lakers made just nine of 36 tries from the floor after intermission.
Despite those woes, Roosevelt was in the game late and within two of the RedHawks after a Myers bucket at the 2:45 mark.
Richardson quickly responded with a basket, which ignited a back-breaking 8-0 run that put the game away in favor of the guests during the final minutes of the contest.
"Our defense was very good again, but we couldn't secure the rebounds and finish possessions, and their second-chance points killed us," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "We are still figuring out lineups and chemistry and roles, and that is stagnating the offense, but we have a lot more home games [10] to finish the season, so we think we can make a run at the end if we can stay healthy."
Roosevelt is back in action on Dec. 30 with the opening game of the Roosevelt New Year's Classic at the Goodman Center, a contest against eighth-ranked Bethel (Ind.) at 4 p.m.
