Box Score WHITING, Ind. – Josh Redic's double-double helped pave the way for the Roosevelt men's basketball team to break open its game at Calumet St. Joseph in the second half, as the Lakers cruised late to a 69-50 victory at the Rittenmeyer Center on Saturday.
Redic scored nine of his team-high 17 points in the second half, with a game- and career-high 10 rebounds to his credit to give the rookie his first collegiate double-double for the Lakers (2-10, 2-5 CCAC), who snapped a five-game skid.
Matt Myers added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting off the bench, while Mark Johnson added a career-high 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Bennett Fuzak pulled down 10 boards, and big man Andrew Veon returned from injury for his first game action since Nov. 2 to contribute 12 strong minutes.
Core'Von Lott led all players with 27 points for the Crimson Wave (3-9, 2-6 CCAC), but while Lott gave the Lakers fits, Roosevelt was able to force the rest of the CCSJ rotation to shoot a combined 7-for-34 (21 percent) from the floor.
The game was close in the opening half, with the two teams separated by two points heading into the break with Roosevelt holding a bucket advantage.
However, the Lakers used a slow build toward a double-digit lead, and despite Lott's best efforts, Roosevelt continued to distance itself from the hosts until the final horn.
"Our team was outstanding from start to finish tonight, with everyone making significant contributions," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "Our defense was the name of the game, and to hold that team to 29 percent shooting on the road was exceptional. Lott was very tough for us, but we held the rest of them in check.
"Redic was great, as was Myers and Johnson, and we got a great boost by finally getting Andrew back."
The Lakers continue their road swing with a non-conference contest at Goshen (Ind.) on Monday night.
