Men's Basketball Can't Rally On The Road At Holy Cross (Ind.)

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Bennett Fuzak was one of three Lakers to reach double figures with 13 points, but Holy Cross (Ind.) answered the various comeback attempts by the Roosevelt men's basketball team and pulled away late with a 75-55 decision for the Saints on their home court inside McKenna Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Fuzak added six boards, while Matt Myers scored 12 points and appeared on pace for much more but was plagued by foul trouble for the Lakers (1-7, 1-3 CCAC).

Brian Kern tallied 10 points off the bench.

Robby Jimenez scored a game-high 18 points for the Saints (6-2, 3-1 CCAC), who shot better than 52 percent (22-for-42) from the floor for the game and 23-for-25 from the foul line.

Holy Cross jumped out to an 11-point lead early that was eventually whittled down to two by Roosevelt in the late stages of the first half. The Saints responded, using a 12-2 run to go up 12 and take a nine-point lead into intermission.

Roosevelt chipped another double-digit deficit down to six about five minutes into the second half, but the hosts were spurred by an 8-0 run that pushed the HCC advantage up to the mid-teens at the eight-minute mark and proved too much for the young Lakers to rally back from.

The Lakers caused 18 turnovers against a Holy Cross side receiving Top 25 votes.

"We hung tough on the road with a very good, veteran team today, but we're still searching for ways to put it all together," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "Several guys are stepping up and getting better, and we're excited to get a win before Thanksgiving."

Roosevelt has a quick turnaround with a non-conference clash against Wabash Avenue neighbor East-West this Monday at 7 p.m. inside the Goodman Center.
