Men's Basketball Makes School-Record 21 3-Pointers, Rolls Past Indiana South Bend

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt men's basketball team sank a school-record 21 three-point field goals to cruise past Indiana South Bend, 90-67, at the Goodman Center on Wednesday night.

Jake Asquini went 6-for-8 from downtown to lead the record-setting night and tally a game-high 21 points for the Lakers (14-9, 8-5 CCAC), who won their third game in a row.

Bennett Fuzak scored 19 points and made five treys, while Grant Gibson added 13 points and Chandler Fuzak tacked on 10 points.

Six Lakers made at least two from beyond the arc.

Jake Ludwig, the CCAC's second-leading scorer entering the evening with 19.0 ppg, only tallied eight poins but facilitated an offense efficiently by handing out seven assists. As a team Roosevelt had 27 assists, matching a season high and falling just two short of the school-best single-game mark, on 33 buckets.

Miguel Mahan scored 17 points off the bench for the Titans (9-14, 4-9 CCAC), who shot 50 percent for the game but were no match for the Lakers' three-point barrage.

Roosevelt went 21-for-36 (58.3 percent) from three-point land, eclipsing the previous school record by one. The honors went to Asquini, who connected on the record-breaking trifecta with a little less than three minutes left in regulation.

"It's always fun to watch a team share the ball as well as we did with 27 assists on 33 field goals," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "I heard the threes tonight, led by Bennett and Asquini, were a school record and I'm guessing our assists were close to a record. Lud didn't have to score as much but he was great with seven assists to only one turnover.

"We could've done a better job of getting fouled and getting to the line, but most of our shots looked like good shots," Griffin said. "Our defense was not good even though we held them 14 points under their average. We lost their shooters and they drove us too easily, so we're excited to see what we can do when we guard as well as we shoot in the same game, and vice versa."

Roosevelt hosts 25th-ranked St. Francis (Ill.) this Saturday at 3 p.m. on the Patti Eylar and Charles Gardner Court inside the Goodman Center.
