ELGIN, Ill. – Jake Ludwig led all scorers with 21 points, and the Roosevelt men's basketball team picked up its second consecutive CCAC road win with a 79-66 victory at Judson inside the Lindner Fitness Center on Saturday.
Grant Gibson contributed 17 points, while Bennett Fuzak added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Lakers (13-9, 7-5 CCAC), who made the most of 28 free throws by making 24. Ludwig was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
In addition to Ludwig's usual prolific scoring and double-figure days by Gibson and Fuzak, the Lakers' bench mob proved pivotal. Kyle Bumbalough led the charge with nine points, while rookie Quin Riggins (3-for-3 from the field) and veteran Kevin Day added seven points apiece.
Led by Chandler Fuzak's 10 rebounds and tough rebounding from guards Jake Asquini (seven) and Bumbalough (six), the Lakers held a 48-34 advantage on the glass.
Taylor Boley led four players in double figures with 19 points for the Eagles (4-16, 2-10 CCAC).
Judson led by seven midway through the first half before Roosevelt roared toward a 21-3 burst that put the Lakers up by 11.
The Lakers took an eight-point lead into the break, and Judson would eventually get within three a few minutes into the second period before a trey by Day quieted the Eagles' rally.
Roosevelt would build its lead back into double digits, where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
"Our second half was pretty sharp after we were sloppy and foggy in the first," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "We had great contributions off the bench and really defended in the second half, which was why we pulled away because we were cold from three [7-for-28].
"Lud, Kyle and Grant paced the scoring and we rebounded and got our running game going well."
Roosevelt will host Indiana South Bend this Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Goodman Center.
