Men's Basketball Wins Sixth Straight With 72-58 Victory Over Saint Xavier

CHICAGO – A balanced effort propelled the Roosevelt men's basketball team to its sixth consecutive win, a 72-58 decision over Saint Xavier inside the Goodman Center on Wednesday night.

All 10 Lakers who appeared in the game scored at least four points, as Jake Ludwig paced Roosevelt (6-3, 2-0 CCAC) with 14 points.

Chandler Fuzak added 12 points, while Grant Gibson added 10 points. Bennett Fuzak added seven points and seven boards off the bench, and five Lakers tallied five points.

Jack Brody led Saint Xavier (3-7, 1-2 CCAC) with game highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Roosevelt's offensive balance was side-by-side with the Lakers' trademark defense that forced the Cougars to shoot under 34 percent from the floor and just 4-for-19 from beyond the arc. The Lakers also caused 17 SXU turnovers.

"Anytime you can get a win in conference, you'll take it, but we still are not clicking or playing near our potential," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "We had a chance to really step on the gas but were unable to do so because of our turnovers [14] and fouling, and we've got to figure out a way to start playing cleaner and smarter.

"Our starters did a good job giving us the lead in both halves and Chandler really scored it well," Griffin said. "Bennett rebounded great off the bench, and Quin [Riggins] gave us steady ballhandling and very good defense. It was good to see our minute allocation between 13 minutes and 28 minutes with 10 players, which shows that we are really utilizing our rotation."

Roosevelt hosts Governors State in the first 2018-19 clash between the CCAC's top two teams last season. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. at the Goodman Center.
