Men's Basketball Makes 20 From Downtown, Overwhelms East-West To Go 9-0

JOLIET, Ill. – Jake Ludwig and Grant Gibson led five Lakers in double figures, as the hot-shooting Roosevelt men's basketball team canned 20 shots from downtown and overwhelmed East-West (Ill.), 106-69, to improve to 9-0 and close out the 2017 University of St. Francis Classic at the Sullivan Center on Sunday.

Ludwig scored a game-high 23 points while Gibson added season-high 21 points for the Lakers, who extended their school records for best start to a season and team winning streak.

Carson Hughes tallied 14 points, Jordan Radcliff added 13 and Chandler Fuzak added 10.

Markus Johnson scored 10 to pace the Phantoms.

In a rematch of Roosevelt's season-opening 85-69 win, the Lakers shot almost 60 percent from the field and made 20 of 38 attempts (53 percent) from behind the arc. All but two players who saw action hit at least one three-pointer, with six Lakers connecting at least twice from long range en route to a rout.

East-West didn't fare as well from downtown, as they made just one of 12 attempts from behind the three-point line.

"We really answered the bell today," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said. "We wanted to go 2-0 this weekend. Hopefully we've positioned ourselves for consideration in the national rankings. Offensively we really shared it with 31 assists. I don't think we've made 20 threes before, either. Defensively we did enough to slow them, and holding them to one made three prevented them from storming back."

Kyle Bumbalough handed out eight of the Lakers' 31 assists on the evening.

Roosevelt takes on Saint Xavier on the Shannon Center on Wednesday.
