CHICAGO – Jake Ludwig led all scorers with 25 points while Kyle Bumbalough and Korey Ryan also posted strong scoring outputs, but the Roosevelt men's basketball team couldn't get past 18th-ranked St. Francis (Ill.) in a 90-82 loss inside the Goodman Center on Saturday.
Bumbalough continued his torrid scoring stretch with 19 points, while Ryan added 16 for the Lakers (4-7, 2-4 CCAC).
Jo Jo Ballestero led the Saints (6-4, 4-1 CCAC) with 17 points, while Jake Raspopovich nearly had a triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
"Francis has great balance and they displayed it today," Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin said after the game. "They hurt us inside big time, sending our bigs to the bench in foul trouble, and they did a good job of scoring off our misses and turnovers. They displayed the total package, and they were better than us today."
St. Francis scored 42 points in the paint and used timely shots from downtown to halt runs by the Lakers.
The first half was separated by single digits the entire way, and St. Francis went into the break leading by nine before scoring the first seven points of the second half.
Despite playing catchup, the Lakers tried to cut the deficit down behind their backcourt trio's offensive grit and got within five midway through the period before the Saints went back ahead by double figures.
Roosevelt got within six late, but the hosts could get no closer as St. Francis iced the game at the foul line.
"We still feel our best basketball is ahead of us and that we can develop in many areas to make a run late in the season, so hopefully we can end the skid this week and get on a winning streak that we know we are capable of," Griffin said.
Roosevelt plays the next four games on the road, beginning with a Dec. 13 date at Goshen (Ind.).
