Men's Basketball Falls To Olivet Nazarene

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt men's basketball team had its troubles against visiting Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, as the Lakers trailed by double figures for most of the game and eventually fell 91-64 at the Lillian and Larry Goodman Center on Saturday.

Tyree York had a fine all-around game with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists to pace the Lakers (12-9, 4-7 CCAC) in all three categories.

Joe Harks added 12 and Korey Ryan tallied 10 as the Roosevelt frontline remained short without injured post players Jeremiah Jackson, Mykyta Cheshko and Dominic Dixon.

Austin Davis led all scorers with 22 points for the Tigers (9-11, 7-4 CCAC), who featured five players in double digits and finished the game shooting 52 percent as a team.

Ryan made the game's first basket, but it was all Olivet from that point as the Tigers, relying on their inside advantage against the shorthanded Lakers, scored the next 10 and rode 56 percent (18-for-32) shooting to build a 20-point lead.

It got not better for the Green and White after halftime, as the Tigers continued to shoot near 50 percent while the Lakers, hitting under 38 percent in each stanza, could get no closer than 19 the rest of the way.

"We were dominated from start to finish," said Roosevelt head coach Joe Griffin. "Credit Olivet for playing to their strengths tonight, which was post play and rebounding. Their size advantage was overwhelming. We have to do a better job of cutting out instead of ball-watching. They also shot the heck out of it and we were cold."

Griffin saw some positives from the game, including the showing from young bench players who received a bit more time on Saturday to add to their seasoning.

"I loved the energy of our reserves, who came in and disrupted them a little bit with deflections and steals," Griffin said. "I'm excited to see how we respond going to forward with a lot of games left."

Roosevelt will take a short ride east to battle Purdue North Central this Wednesday, Jan. 29.
