Chicago, Ill. - The Roosevelt men's basketball team will make its postseason debut on Tuesday night as the sixth-seeded Lakers travel to the Shannon Center to square off with #3 Saint Xavier in the quarterfinals of the CCAC Division I Tournament at 7:00 p.m.
Roosevelt, which was ineligible for postseason play last season as a first-year program, finished the regular season at 9-19 and 1-9 in the league, which put the Lakers in sixth place. The Cougars own a record of 22-8 and posted a 7-3 mark in conference. This put Saint Xavier into a second-place tie with Olivet Nazarene. The Tigers won the second seed and a first-round bye in the tournament by winning a coin flip to decide the tiebreaker.
The winner of the Roosevelt/Saint Xavier contest will travel to take on the Tigers on Thursday in the semifinal round. The championship game is slated for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the home venue of the highest remaining seed.
The Lakers are 1-3 all-time against the Cougars since the reinstitution of varsity athletics in 2010 with that lone triumph coming back on Dec. 4, 2010. Senior
Paul Tometich has fared well in his four career games against Saint Xavier, averaging 23 points per game.
