CHICAGO - With a week away from competition due to final exams, the Roosevelt men's basketball team will return to game action at the Lillian and Larry Goodman Center this Sunday, Dec. 16 to host NCAA Division III Concordia University Chicago.
Tip between the Lakers (7-4) and the Cougars (0-7) on The Patti Eylar/Charles Gardner Court inside the Goodman Center is slated for 4 p.m.
Gameday Note: With the Goodman Center located less than two miles northwest of Soldier Field, where the Chicago Bears will host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at noon, the downtown and South Loop areas are expected to contain more congestion than usual that day. High levels of automobile and foot traffic, limited parking in the area and street parking restrictions on various blocks are expected. Please be advised of possible traffic delays and plan your trip accordingly.
The Lakers will look to start a new winning streak after having their six-game victory cavalcade halted by top-ranked Cardinal Stritch on Dec. 8 despite a valiant road effort by a Roosevelt squad missing two starters due to injury.
Roosevelt's success behind the three-point arc on both ends of the court has been a key to the Lakers' solid start. As of Thursday, Dec. 13, Roosevelt leads all NAIA DII squads in three-point shooting by hitting at a clip of 44.2 percent, with five players connecting on 40 percent or better on such long-range attempts. On defense, the Lakers allow opponents to shoot just 25.3 percent from behind the three-point line, a statistic that puts Roosevelt at fourth in the country in the category.
The sophomore backcourt of Lombard natives Joe Harks and Tyree York continue to pace the Lakers offensively. Harks leads the team in scoring at 14.6 ppg, while York is the offensive engine with a 7.3 assists-per-game average that ranks third in the nation.
Chicago-bred forwards Brandyn Denson and Jeremiah Jackson fuel Roosevelt's rebounding prowess, as Denson's team-high 9.2 rpg and Jackson's 6.6 rpg allow the Lakers to pull down the second-most rebounds per contest (39.3) in the CCAC.
