Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Roosevelt men's basketball team ran into a red-hot shooting Mount Mercy squad on Saturday afternoon as the Mustangs shot a season-high 62 percent from the field and connected on 12 three-pointers en route to a 109-84 victory over the visiting Lakers at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Paul Tometich continued his stellar play for Roosevelt (2-5) as the nation's second-leading scorer poured in a game-high 29 points on 11-for-17 shooting. Freshman
Rodney Metellus added a career-best 13 points, while junior
Julian Sykes tabbed 10 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort.
Max Stambaugh paced five Mount Mercy (6-4) players in double figures with 18 points. Stambaugh was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.
The Mustangs broke the game open in the first half with an early 12-0 run that turned a 10-9 Roosevelt lead into an 11-point advantage the Lakers could not overcome. Mount Mercy led by 26 points at the half after shooting 63 percent from the field and outscoring Roosevelt 26-6 in the paint in the opening period.
The Mustangs never allowed the Lakers to get back in the game, continuing their hot shooting by connecting on 19-of-31 field goals in the second half.
Roosevelt will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when the Lakers conclude their Iowa road trip with a tilt at Ashford at 3:00 p.m.
