CHICAGO – The Roosevelt men's tennis team had the maximum four student-athletes honored as Academic All-District honorees Tuesday by College Sports Communicators.
It is the third consecutive award for senior
Justus Peters, who has been a staple of the Lakers lineup for his three seasons in Chicago. It is the second straight honor for junior
Juan Pablo Espinosa and it is the first All-District distinctions for
Chakib Madcur and
Abhay Singh. The foursome played an integral role in Roosevelt earning its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory this year and qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament at the end of the season.
In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete not only hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older, but also must have either appeared in 75 percent of a team's dual matches in either singles or doubles. The list of all-district honorees is then vetted by the CSC committee, who send out a ballot for All-American honors to the membership.
The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
