Marie Outlay Again Earns GLIAC Defensive Player Of The Week

BAY CITY, Mich. – For the third time this season, Marie Outlay was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The Sun Prairie, Wis. native averaged 4.5 steals, 2.5 blocks and seven rebounds per game as the Lakers split their weekend with Wayne State and Purdue Northwest. The junior had six steals and three blocks against Wayne State then added three thefts and two more rejections in limited minutes against Purdue Northwest. This is the fourth time this season Outlay has been honored by the GLIAC, having also been named Offensive Player of the Week earlier this month.

"Marie has been impressive all season long," Roosevelt head coach Deon Thomas said. "I am proud of her continuous effort and leadership on the defensive end."

It is fitting that Outlay was honored prior to Saturday's win over Purdue Northwest for breaking the Roosevelt single-game and career steals record to take control of every major steals record in Lakers history. The junior ranks second nationally with 108 steals and leads Division II with 4.32 steals per game this season. She also ranks second in the GLIAC in blocks per game with 1.36 and is sixth in the conference in rebounds at more than seven per contest.
