Five Basketball Players Named Academic All-District Honoree

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt basketball programs had five student-athletes honored as Academic All-District selections by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday.

The men's team was represented by junior Davon Smith-Johnson, who was the only player to start all 27 games this season for the Lakers. The Cleveland, Ohio native averaged 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for Roosevelt and led the team with 26 blocks.

On the women's side, Marie Outlay earned her second All-District honor and was advanced to the Academic All-America ballot for the membership. The junior from Sun Prairie, Wis. was the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team All-GLIAC honoree this past season after setting Roosevelt's record for single-game, single-season and career steals.

The Lakers also had three first-time honorees in Kelly Boyle, Brynne Katcher and Isabel Lindo, all juniors who are in their first year at Roosevelt. Boyle averaged 12 points and 2.9 assists per game for the Lakers after starting all 28 games this season at point guard. Katcher started 27 of 28 games and averaged six points and five rebounds per game. Lindo made 20 starts and averaged 7.5 points per game this season.

In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete not only hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older, but also must have either appeared in 90 percent of a team's games or started 2/3 of a team's contests. The list of all-district honorees is then vetted by the CSC committee, who send out a ballot for All-American honors to the membership.

The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
