DETROIT – Roosevelt's season came to an end Wednesday night in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference quarterfinals with a 75-56 loss to second-seeded Wayne State in Detroit.
The resilient eight Lakers who made the trip to the Motor City started off the game strong, matching the Warriors nearly shot for shot in the opening quarter. The lead changed hands eight times in the first 10 minutes as the teams went back-and-forth with neither side able to build much momentum.
In the second quarter, Wayne State began to pull away as the rims proved unkind to Roosevelt (8-20) with shots rolling off the rim that had rolled in in the first quarter. The Warriors doubled their 12-point halftime lead in the third quarter before the Lakers finally clawed back into the game in the fourth.
The Lakers won the final quarter 18-13, which included a critical 13-1 run that put some pressure on the Warriors. Roosevelt methodically trimmed a 25-point deficit down to 14 with just over two minutes remaining, forcing Wayne State to send its starters back onto the court.
Brynne Katcher led the Lakers with 14 points on 6 of 14 shooting and Kelly Boyle added 13 points as well for Roosevelt. Marie Outlay scored seven points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds while also adding three blocks and a steal. Isabella Pitta also contributed seven points and seven boards while Aubrey Leonard scored six points and Isabel Lindo hit five free throws.
