ROOSEVELT WEEK AHEAD: February 17-22

CHICAGO – Here's a look at the week ahead in Roosevelt Athletics.

Baseball
The baseball season begins this week, with five games on the schedule for Roosevelt. On Wednesday, the Lakers open their season at 3 p.m. in Joliet against former CCAC rival St. Francis (1-3). The Lakers will then play four games this weekend at Quincy (4-4), with the first coming on Friday at 3 p.m. On Saturday, Roosevelt and Quincy will play a doubleheader with a noon start in the first game before finishing the four-game set at noon on Sunday. The Lakers compiled a record of 15-36 last season in their first year competing at the Division II level.

Softball
The softball team is back in action with six contests in four days at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex. Roosevelt (1-1) starts the week Thursday with matchups against Minnesota Duluth (4-3) at 9 a.m. and St. Cloud State (4-0) at 1:30 p.m. On Friday, the Lakers face Upper Iowa (1-11) at 9 a.m. then square off against Bemidji State (0-4) at 11 a.m.. On Saturday, Roosevelt takes on William Jewell (1-7) at 8 p.m. before wrapping up the week against Lewis (1-3) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Women's Basketball
The Roosevelt women's basketball team has its final pair of home games this week, taking on Wayne State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. then Purdue Northwest on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lakers (7-16, 6-10 GLIAC) dropped the first matchup this season against the Warriors (18-6, 13-3 GLIAC) by a score of 78-50. The Lakers did win the first matchup against the Pride 74-64 with Isabel Lindo and Kelly Boyle both dropping career highs in points while the Roosevelt defense forced 19 turnovers.

Men's Basketball
The Roosevelt men's basketball team will have its last pair of games at the Goodman Center this week as well. The Lakers (4-19, 3-13 GLIAC) begin Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Wayne State after the two played a tight game last month and the Warriors (11-11, 8-8 GLIAC) eventually came out on top 78-67. On Saturday, Roosevelt will look to complete the season sweep against Purdue Northwest (11-12, 7-9 GLIAC) at 3 p.m. Mikey West was the standout performer in the Lakers' win over the Pride last month, dropping a career-high 33 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the floor and 7-for-11 from three.

Track and Field
The men's and women's track teams will head back to Allendale, Michigan, for a second consecutive week to participate in the GVSU Tune Up on Friday.

Men's Volleyball
The Roosevelt men's volleyball team (6-4) has a pair of games this week, with the first coming at home against UW Stevens Point (5-7) at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Lakers will then head to Palos Heights on Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup with Trinity Christian (2-2).
