CHICAGO – Roosevelt women's volleyball added four more Academic All-District winners to its growing list of academic successes, College Sports Communicators announced Tuesday.
The Lakers put the maximum four student-athletes on the list, headlined by senior Zoe Hutchinson, who earned her second Academic All-District honor from CSC. The setter from Garden Grove, Calif. was a 2023 honoree before injuries limited her in 2024. Cydney Martinez earned her first honor as a senior after transferring last fall from College of DuPage. Isa Grana and Lihi Zaibert were also both first-time winners this year.
In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete not only hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older, but also must have either appeared in 90 percent of a team's games or started 2/3 of a team's contests. The list of all-district honorees is then vetted by the CSC committee, who send out a ballot for All-American honors to the membership.
Hutchinson, Martinez and Zaibert all appeared in all 28 matches for the Lakers this season while Grana made 27 appearances for Roosevelt. Hutchinson led the team with 344 assists, nearly four per set, and Grana added 249 helpers to go along with 20 aces and 101 kills. Martinez led the team with 21 aces and was a defensive dynamo with 289 digs, an average of 3.14 per set. Zaibert had a team-best 66 blocks to go along with 144 kills during her first season with the team.
The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
