Box Score CHICAGO – Roosevelt's season came to a close Tuesday evening with a straight-sets defeat to Calumet St. Joseph at the Goodman Center in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Lakers (9-17, 1-9 CCAC) held a potent Crimson Wave attack to hitting less than .200 for the match with eight total blocks. However, Roosevelt's attack couldn't find much momentum in the 25-19, 25-13, 25-18 loss.
Diego Esquivel led the team with five kills and was one of two players along with Lachlan Diamond who had more kills than errors. Diamond was one of four Lakers who finished with at least three blocks, alongside three stuffs each from Andrea DiPaola and Kenny Koster and four from Terrance Young Jr. Daniel Magana-Huynh dished out 16 assists while Miguel Mendez Palencia led the Lakers with six digs.
In the first set, Roosevelt stayed neck and neck with Calumet St. Joseph and Diamond brought the Lakers within 16-15 before the Crimson Wave pulled away. Calumet St. Joseph raced out to a big lead in the second set by winning 14 of the first 17 points then closed the match with a 6-1 run to end the third set.
Prior to the match, the Lakers honored their three seniors from this year's team: Robert Davis, Kenny Koster and Luis Marchan.
The Lakers men's volleyball program will make the transition to NCAA competition next season in the National Collegiate Division. The NC Division allows the NCAA to hold a national championship tournament with teams from from Division I and Division II institutions. The Lakers are in the process of finalizing conference affiliation for next season, and that information will be shared when available.
