KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Roosevelt confirmed it will be the fourth seed in next week's Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament after being swept by Rockhurst on Friday in a GLVC match in Kansas City.
Mark Zmojdzin led the Lakers with 11 kills in the match, including five in a 25-17 loss in the opening set. Roosevelt (16-9, 8-5) made a run at the Hawks again in the second set behind five more kills from Zmojdzin, but fell short 25-22. Rockhurst then pulled away for a 25-11 win in the third set to take the match.
Martino Bertagnoli had 25 assists and a team-high five digs as Roosevelt's typically stout defense struggled. The Lakers finished with just 17 digs and had more blocking errors than total blocks.
Friday's match was delayed by 90 minutes at the start of the match after a torrential storm swept its way through the Kansas City area, forcing the Rockhurst campus to take precautionary measures.
