CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team returned to the Goodman Center after two weeks on the road on Saturday, October 29. Roosevelt played host to Saint Xavier Cougars in their annual Dig Pink game, as the Lakers donned pink uniforms and raised money in support of breast cancer awareness. To make a contribution, click HERE. Despite a strong start to the match, the Lakers would fall to the first-place Cougars in straight sets.

The initial set got off to a prosperous start for the Lakers as they took an early 4-1 lead on a kill from senior Jessa Henry. Roosevelt would maintain their edge on the scoreboard throughout the majority of the frame and the team rattled off four straight points, including another Henry kill, to go up six at 12-6. Following a pair of kills from Emily DeBlecourt and a service ace from Logan Cofield, the Lakers found themselves with a 22-17 advantage. A pair of Cougars errors set up match point for the Lakers, but St. Xavier showed why they are the CCAC's top team to this point of the season, rallying off six straight points to take a 25-24 lead. A Viktoria Marysheva killed tied the set at 25 apiece, but the Cougars were able to get out of the first set with a 28-26 win.

The following set remained competitive to start, as a pair of Marysheva kills along will kills from DeBlecourt and senior Alyssa Stilley gave the Lakers a 10-9 edge. The lead would be short-lived as Cougars found their groove, scoring the next eight points en route to a 25-13 set win. Saint Xavier carried that momentum into the final set, winning that by another 25-13 margin and winning the match in straight sets.

Viktoria Marysheva led the Lakers with eight kills and Emily DeBlecourt added five of her own. Jessa Henry contributed a team high nine assists and added four digs.

The Lakers head north for their final road CCAC contest on Tuesday, November 1 when they take on the Trinity International Trojans. First serve is set for 7:00 pm inside Van Dixhorn Arena in Deerfield, Illinois.
