Box Score CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team looked to finish its three-match CCAC homestand with another victory on Tuesday, October 11. The Lakers welcomed the Indiana University South Bend Titans to the Goodman Center, looking to win their second straight after defeating CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene last Thursday.
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair with the Lakers getting contributions throughout the lineup. Viktoria Marysheva, Alyssa Stilley, Jessa Henry, and Emily DeBlecourt all picked up kills in the first 10 Roosevelt points. With the Lakers down 10-12, Henry picked up her third kill of the set, followed by an IUSB error and an ace from Olivia Adams to take the lead, 13-12. RU continued to apply the pressure and another pair of kills from Marysheva and Henry increased the advantage to four points at 17-13. Those two would finish the set with four and five kills respectively as the Lakers claimed the first, 25-20.
The momentum the Lakers built up in the first dissipated quickly to start the second as the Titans scored the first four points of the set and leading to an early RU timeout. Lakers freshman Gabrielle Teorey would get the first kill and block of her young career, but the lead the Titans built early in the set was too much for Roosevelt as IUSB won the second 25-14.
It was more of the same for the Titans in the third, as they built a quick 7-0 advantage to start things off. A Roosevelt timeout seemed to right the ship, as the Lakers rallied off four straight points, including another Henry kill. With RU down 6-9, Savannah Green entered the match to serve and the Lakers tallied two straight points to climb within one. Not long after, sophomore Nicole Darin entered the match for the first time and quickly delivered two kills, to pull Roosevelt back to within one. A trifecta of Brooke Williams blocks would tie the match up at 22 each. The teams would alternate points, including kills from Marysheva, Stilley, and Henry, but IUSB was able to eventually pull away for the set win, 28-26.
Learning from their mistakes in the previous sets, the Lakers got on the board early in the fourth on a Marysheva kill. However, the Titans were able to turn the tables, scoring seven-straight points to take a 9-3 lead. RU would begin chipping away at the lead, getting as close as 7-10. IUSB was able to stop the bleeding and rallied off nine points of their own to go up double digits. The Titans would go on to win the match with a 25-9 set victory.
