CHICAGO, Ill. – After falling behind by two sets and coming back to win the next two, the Roosevelt University women's volleyball team lost the fifth and deciding set to drop its CCAC Conference match to Governors State University on Tuesday, September 21 at the Goodman Center.  The loss dropped their conference record to 0-6 and their overall record to 2-12 on the year.

The Lakers started the first set off well, opening an 8-5 lead, but the Jaguars came back to score 12 of the next 15 points to jump ahead 17-11 and went on to win 25-16. 

In the second set, Governors State built a seven-point lead at 16-9 before Roosevelt pulled to within a point at 20-19.  However, the Jaguars would not relinquish the lead and tallied five of the last six points for a 25-20 set win to lead 2-0 in the match.

The Lakers would not give up without a fight, scoring the first four points of the third set behind two kills from Logan Cofield.  RU held the lead for the majority of the set until the Jaguars evened the set at 20-20.  However, the Lakers regained the lead and served for set point on multiple occasions before finally closing out the set at 31-29 to stay alive in the match.

Following the pattern of the third set, the Lakers once again opened a 4-0 advantage to begin the fourth set and led 7-1.  Slowly the Jaguars crept back into the set and tied things up at 21-21, but RU took control again behind two kills by Kaila Beckwith to serve for set point at 24-22.  However, Governors State scored two straight points before the Lakers answered with two points of their own to win 26-24 and force a fifth and deciding set.

Unfortunately, the momentum from the previous two sets did not carry over to the fifth set as Governors State opened a 10-1 lead.  The Lakers did score the next three points, but the Jaguars closed out the match with a 15-6 set victory to take the CCAC Conference match.
