ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team hosted Trinity International University in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match on Saturday, Feb. 27, dropping the hard fought contest in straight sets to the Trojans at the Athletic & Convocation Center in Arlington Heights, Ill.
The Lakers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set and also led 13-10 before the Trojans came back and took control of the set, winning 25-18 to take a 1-0 match lead.
The second set saw Roosevelt take an early advantage again, leading Trinity International by as many as four points. However, the Trojans fought back once again to tie the set at 20-20 and then scored the next four points to lead 24-20 and serve for set point. The Lakers battled off three set points to close to within 24-23, but TIU scored the next point to go up two sets to none.
The third set followed the blueprint of the two previous stanzas with the Lakers opening up an early lead once again. The Trojans erased that RU lead and built a 20-17 edge, but the Lakers scored four consecutive points, including on two service aces by Kara Sleeper (JR/Pinckney, Mich.), to regain the lead at 21-20. Roosevelt continued the momentum to increase its lead to 24-22 and serve for set point, but Trinity International fought off three set points and went on to win the set 29-27 to sweep the match.
