Box Score CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team squared off against Saint Xavier University, one of the two unbeaten teams in the CCAC Conference, falling in straight sets on Thursday, October 14 at the Goodman Center in downtown Chicago. The loss kept the Lakers winless in conference play at 0-10 and dropped their overall record to 3-18 on the year.
The match started off well for the Lakers as they held their own against the Cougars from beginning to end of the opening set. The two teams were not separated by more than two points until Saint Xavier pushed its lead to 17-14, but Roosevelt scored five straight points to take a 19-17 lead. The Cougars came back to regain the lead and win the set 25-23.
In the second set, the Cougars opened a 7-1 lead to begin the stanza, but the Lakers cut the deficit to 8-7. Unfortunately, Saint Xavier answered with five unanswered points and carried that momentum to a 25-14 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the third set, but the Cougars erased that lead and built up a 13-7 advantage. RU tried to fight back and stay in the match, narrowing the gap to 15-11 only to have Saint Xavier once again pull away, winning 25-17 to take the match in three sets.
