Three Cheers For Chears: Senior Puts Up 30 Again Against Stritch To Key Roosevelt's 78-63 Win

CHICAGO - For the second time this season against Cardinal Stritch, Roosevelt guard JayShari Chears burst out for a career-high 30 points to lead the Roosevelt women's basketball team to a decisive 78-63 victory over the Wolves at the Goodman Center on Monday night.

Chears was a dominatingly-efficient force, going 10-for-16 from the floor and connecting on a career-best seven of her 10 three-point attempts.

The senior guard also led a stifling defensive effort by Roosevelt (4-16, 3-9 CCAC) with four of the Lakers' 15 steals. RU also forced 31 turnovers.

Ashley Smoldt turned in 13 points and six assists, matching teammate MicQuasha Riddle's six dimes.

Lindzy Cox added 11 points and eight boards, while Jordan Fierst tallied eight points and connected on her sole attempt from downtown.

Kara Shimko and Mikki O'Neal led the Wolves (8-11, 6-7 CCAC) with 13 points apiece, while Jalah Harris added 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Roosevelt led for almost the entire game, nursing a small lead for most of the first half before breaking the game open in the third thanks to an early 7-1 run that made it a double-digit contest in the Lakers' favor.

With Chears making life miserable for the Stritch defense, the Green and White held off the Stritch rally try with big responses to never look back late.

Roosevelt hosts Governors State at the Goodman Center this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
