Stumpf, Stilley Stand Out In Volleyball's Narrow Five-Set Road Loss At St. Ambrose

Box Score

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Amy Stumpf's double-double and double-digit kills from Alyssa Stilley paced the Roosevelt volleyball team's road effort at St. Ambrose on Tuesday night, but the Lakers fell just short in five closely-contested sets as the Bees prevailed late, 25-19, 22-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-12.

Stumpf led the Lakers (5-8, 1-1 CCAC) with 11 kills and a match-high 18 digs, stepping up as Roosevelt was without the injured Kendra Lee.

Stilley turned in 10 kills and three blocks, while Makenzie Cooper had 13 digs and eight kills. Mackenzie Bell added nine kills and 16 assists while Mallory Nickelson had 18 assists, and Paula Gross posted 15 digs.

Roosevelt rebounded from a first-set loss to take the next two sets, but the Lakers couldn't get their attack settled in set four as SAU (3-8, 2-0 CCAC) forced the fifth frame.

There the two sides battled in a game of inches, as Roosevelt led 10-9 until the Bees rattled off four consecutive points.

Roosevelt got within 14-12 after a Cooper kill, but SAU's Abby Happ ended the match with a kill to secure the win for the hosts despite RU's valiant effort.

The Lakers concluded a road swing of five straight matches this Thursday at Indiana Northwest.
