DEERFIELD, Ill. – Makenzie Cooper had another double-double effort with a match-high 12 kills to go with a team-high 19 digs, and the Roosevelt volleyball team couldn't hang on to a 2-1 set advantage in the Lakers' second consecutive five-set CCAC affair in a 22-25, 25-13, 14-25, 25-16, 15-7 loss to host Trinity International at Van Dixhorn Arena on Saturday.
For the second straight match the Lakers (6-15, 1-8 CCAC) faced a conference foe that swept them last year, and for the second straight match the Lakers went the distance against the opponent this time around.
The Lakers eked out a close 25-22 win in the first set, and after a difficult second stanza that went the way of the Trojans (14-7, 7-1 CCAC), Roosevelt returned the favor with decisive third-set decision.
The Lakers couldn't bring that momentum into the fourth frame, and the Green and White fell behind 7-1 in the fifth set to dig a hole that they couldn't come back from.
Roosevelt finished with a -.032 hitting percentage, with 34 attack errors plaguing the Lakers' road effort.
Paula Gross had 18 digs, Amy Stumpf added 14 digs and five service aces, and Mallory Nickelson had 16 assists.
Roosevelt hosts Indiana South Bend on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. inside the Goodman Center.
