GLENDALE, Wis. – Antonio Martinez scored the equalizer in the 87th minute to send the Roosevelt men's soccer team into overtime with host and seventh-ranked Cardinal Stritch, but the Wolves scored the game-winning goal on Teren Schuster's successful shot in the 103rd minute to send Stritch past the gritty Lakers, 3-2, at Bavarian Soccer Club on Saturday night.
Albert Arabik scored a leveling tally and Jose Solis and Oscar Gaytan had assists for the Lakers (6-10-1, 5-5-1 CCAC).
Jesus Velasco made five stops for the Lakers in goal against a top-10 side.
Salvador Nunez scored the game's first goal in the fifth minute and assisted on Schuster's winner for the Wolves (15-2-0, 10-1-0 CCAC), who clinched the CCAC regular season title with Saturday's result.
After Nunez scored unassisted early, Arabik responded by taking a ball from Solis and knocking it in to tie the match in the 14th minute.
Deadlocked was the match until the 70th minute, when Stritch pulled ahead again on Payton Aranda's goal on a ball from Liam Heywood.
With the clock not in the Lakers' favor, the veteran Gaytan set up Martinez for a huge goal that brought Roosevelt even with three minutes left in regulation.
After the two sides played to a scoreless first OT, Schuster took Nunez's setup and scored the golden goal a little more than two minutes into the second extra session.
Roosevelt finishes the season sixth in the CCAC regular season standings, setting up a matchup against Judson, the third-place side, in the quarterfinals of the CCAC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 2 in Elgin. The two teams will face off in the CCAC quarters for the second straight season and will play for the second time in two weeks.
