BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – The Roosevelt women's soccer team fell behind in the opening minutes of Saturday's game against Olivet Nazarene, and the Lakers could not overcome that early deficit in a 6-1 loss to the Tigers at an unseasonably steamy Toyota Park.
Anna Agboola scored her third goal of the season in the 39th minute for the Lakers (2-5-0, 0-2-0 CCAC) before she was sent off with in the 70th minute on a tackle deemed worthy of a red card by the referee.
That was all the offense the Lakers could muster on the day, as the Tigers (4-4-1, 2-0-0 CCAC) got on the board 95 seconds into the match on a corner kick that was accidentally punched in by keeper Kara Jones for an unfortunate own goal that gave the Tigers a quick lead.
Olivet scored another goal a little more than a minute later, and the Tigers tacked on two more before Agboola's wonderful run and goal-scoring shot.
Jones made 12 saves as she did everything she could to prevent ONU's 37-shot barrage from opening the floodgates further during a second day of autumn in Chicago's south suburbs that reached 96 degrees and a heat index that had the feel of the atmosphere at a sweaty 103 degrees.
Roosevelt will look to bounce back on Tuesday against St. Ambrose in Davenport, Iowa.
