Women's Basketball Hangs With No. 23 Olivet Nazarene, Falls Short In 95-87 Loss

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt women's basketball team held the CCAC's highest-scoring offense 12 points below its average, but the Lakers couldn't get late stops after rallying back from a 15-point deficit against 23rd-ranked Olivet Nazarene in a game that finished in a 95-87 win for the frenetic Tigers inside the Goodman Center on Tuesday.

Jasmine Albert matched her jersey number with 22 points to go with nine rebounds, while Paige Gallimore added 16 points and eight assists, Lindzy Cox turned in 12 points and eight boards and Chelsey Crippen had a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards for the Lakers (3-3, 1-2 CCAC).

Jess Learned led four scorers in double figures with 23 points for the Tigers (6-3, 3-0 CCAC), who attempted an astounding 64 three-point shots amidst its frenetic "Tigerball" offense.

The Tigers' brand of quick-shot offense challenged Roosevelt's league-leading defense, and ONU pressured the Lakers into 31 turnovers.

Despite the wild pace of the game, Roosevelt rebounded from a big third-quarter deficit to eventually tie the game with 1:23 on a bucket scored by Ashley Smoldt.

ONU hit back-to-back three-pointers between an Albert basket to take a four-point lead, the latter scored by Learned with 44 ticks left.

Emily Duckhorn took a three shortly after to try and make it a one-possession game, but the shot rolled out of the rim.

The Tigers rebounded and shot free throws to close out the final stages of the game, creating enough cushion to escape with the win as time ran out on the Lakers despite holding the Tigers, who came in scoring 107.4 points per game, to a double-digit margin below average.

Roosevelt plays at Silver Lake College in Wisconsin this Sunday.
