Chicago, Ill. – The Roosevelt women's basketball team could not derail #1 Saint Xavier's perfect start to the 2015-16 season as the host Cougars topped the Lakers 79-55 on Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center.
Saint Xavier moved to 17-0 overall on the year with the win, tying the best start to a season in program history. The Cougars also remained unblemished in league play with a 7-0 CCAC ledger. The Lakers, meanwhile, slipped to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in conference.
The Cougars jumped out early on Roosevelt. Saint Xavier tallied the contest's first 12 points and never looked back, owning the lead for the entire 40 minutes. Kara Krolicki led five Cougars in double figures with a game-high 27 points, which included a 7-for-16 showing from three-point range.
Freshman Becca Bergman paced the Lakers with 15 points and three assists, while sophomore Paige Gallimore chipped in with 11 points. Rookie Diamond Copeland pulled down a career-best 11 rebounds.
Roosevelt returns home on Tuesday night to take on city-rival Robert Morris at 5:30 p.m. at the Lillian and Larry Goodman Center.
