MARION, Ind. – Mika Reid scored the equalizer with 52 seconds remaining in regulation, and Monica Munoz scored her first collegiate goal less than five minutes into the first overtime to propel the Roosevelt women's soccer team to a 2-1 road win over Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers (3-1-0) faced a significant weather delay for the second straight day on their Indiana road trip, as lightning forced Saturday's match to be pushed back by nearly two hours.
Despite an overwhelming shot advantage for the Wildcats (2-2-0), who unleashed 23 attempts to Roosevelt's six, the Lakers held their ground and remained steadfast on defense with a bend-but-don't-break showing.
A whistle gave the hosts a late penalty kick that was converted by Nicole Biggs a tick after the 84th minute.
With time winding down, it was Reid who used her speed to break through the Wildcat defense and knock in the ball far post for a dramatic game-tying tally.
Momentum shifted to the Lakers, and after an offside call on IWU and an errant shot by the Wildcats, the efficient Green and White side saw the Lakers' sixth shot of the game go in after the foot of the younger Munoz unfurled an 18-yard shot to beat keeper Alex Seabeck at right post.
Both of Roosevelt's goals were assisted by Chelsea Olson, who sent in through balls to both Reid and Munoz to set them up for the clutch scores. Olson now has six points (2 goals, 2 assists) in the Lakers' four games.
Maria Narcisi made seven stops in 95 minutes of strong goalkeeping work.
