CHICAGO – The Roosevelt volleyball team rallied back after dropping the first two sets to force a decisive fifth frame, but the Lakers ran out of gas in the finale against visiting St. Amrbose in a 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 16-25, 15-7 loss at the Goodman Center on Thursday.
Brooke Lee led all players with 16 kills for the Lakers (6-11, 5-6 CCAC), while Marissa Minturn had 31 assists and Arielle Nausieda posted 15 digs.
Allie Brent led the Fighting Bees (8-15, 5-7 CCAC) with 15 kills.
St. Ambrose pulled out the first two frames, but that didn't deter Roosevelt as the hosts led set three by as many as nine until the Bees came back to tie the stanza at 23-23. The Lakers tallied the next two points on a service error and a Lee kill to force a fourth set.
The Lakers scored the first four points of the fourth and cruised to a big win to set up a do-or-die fifth frame.
Roosevelt led the fifth set by two early until the Bees scored seven straight points to take control and never look back despite the Lakers' late attempts to come back one more time.
Roosevelt heads to Whiting this weekend to participate in the Crimson Wave Invitational at CCSJ.
