CHICAGO – In a fall exhibition against a tough and highly-regarded Prairie State program, the Roosevelt men's tennis team had plenty to beam about on a hot and humid day at Grant Park as the Lakers won a 6-3 bout on Friday.
In singles action, freshman Josh Moller pulled out the victory at the four spot for his first college win by winning 10-8 in a third-set tiebreaker.
"Josh played extremely tough tennis today against a strong opponent that would not give up," said Roosevelt head coach Lucian Tabic. "Coming back to take the tiebreaker took a lot of discipline and focus. Following a solid week of practice, he stuck to the game plan and executed it well until the last point. It was a great win for him today."
Junior Tyler Weber won both of his matches on Friday, joining Moller and freshman Serhiy Kiyasov in the two-win category.
"Tyler continues to surprise our coaching staff with his great attitude and efforts," said Tabic. "Alongside his teammates, he prepared well this week and ultimately provided the team with two crucial points."
Tabic noted that other match highlights included junior Manny Eudave winning at No. 3 doubles, while the front of the singles lineup held steady for his squad as Kiyasov and fellow freshman Nick Kuntzi provided stout play that resulted in wins No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
