CHICAGO - The Roosevelt volleyball team rebounded from a day-starting four-set loss to Siena Heights with a clean sweep of Mount Mercy during the opening festivities of the Saint Xavier Crossover at the Shannon Center on Friday.
Despite a match-high 18 kills from Vanessa Owusu, the Lakers (1-2) dropped sets three and four after a split in the first two frames to fall to the Saints (1-0), 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-15. Arielle Nausieda had a match-best 20 digs, while newcomer Brooke Lee was credited with seven block assists.
The Green and White shook off the early loss with a decisive win in the nightcap over the Mustangs (0-1), 25-22, 25-23, 25-19. Tori Schrementi paced the Lakers with a match-high-tying 12 kills to go with 10 digs for a double-double. Abby Petroelje, another fresh face, shined with nine kills and eight digs.
Owusu accumulated 24 kills between the two matches. Schrementi had 11 kills in the first match for 23 total kills on the day.
Roosevelt resumes the SXU Crossover at the Shannon Center on Saturday.
