CHICAGO – Roosevelt women's volleyball continued its immense success in the classroom with three players named to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Seniors
Viktoria Marysheva and
Krista Norton both earned their second all-district distinction after being honored last season as well. Sophomore
Yuliia Shchepkina was named to the team for the first time this year in her first year of eligibility. Marysheva was a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-conference honorable mention selection this season after leading the team with 228 kills this season. Shchepkina and Norton finished first and second, respectively, in blocks with the sophomore finishing with 53 and the senior rejecting 47 attacks. Shchepkina also led the team with a .231 attacking percentage with 162 kills on 394 attempts.Â
In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete not only hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older, but also must have either appeared in 90 percent of a team's games or started 2/3 of a team's contests. The list of all-district honorees is then vetted by the CSC committee, who send out a ballot for All-American honors to the membership. The Academic All-American teams will be announced on Jan. 14.
The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
