Roosevelt Women's Volleyball Earns Second Straight AVCA Academic Honor

CHICAGO – For the second consecutive year, the Roosevelt women's volleyball program was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for its academic success in the classroom by being named a 2025 AVCA Team Academic Award recipient Monday afternoon.

The award honors high school and college programs around the country that maintain at least a 3.3 GPA as a team. The Lakers had eight student-athletes qualify for academic awards from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, including six who held at least a 3.5 GPA. In addition, the program had three student-athletes named Academic All-District honorees by College Sports Communicators this year.

Roosevelt women's volleyball has been a consistent honoree from the AVCA under head coach Nicasio Paquiz Jr. This is the fifth time in the past seven years the Lakers have earned this distinction from the AVCA for their work in the classroom. This is in addition to the numerous NAIA Scholar Team awards the program earned when competing in the NAIA until this past season.

The Lakers begin their 2025 season on Sept. 5 in Springfield, Ill. with a doubleheader against Central Missouri and Quincy at the UIS Invitational.
