CHICAGO - Defending Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Champion Roosevelt heads to Bourbonnais today in the start of the Lakers' search to repeat that title feat with a 2014 CCAC tourney quarterfinal against Olivet Nazarene at 5:30 p.m.
The game between the Lakers (21-9) and the Tigers (20-9) takes place at ONU's McHie Arena. Fans can watch the game live here.
The winner advances to the CCAC semis to face either Saint Xavier (26-4) or Calumet College of St. Joseph (14-15) on Friday at the site of the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
Roosevelt and Olivet met just once in the regular season, with the Tigers coming away with a 112-99 win at the Goodman Center back on Jan. 25. Senior guard Casey Davis tallied a school single-game record 51 points, the most by a player in the NAIA this season, in the fast-paced contest en route to CCAC and NAIA Player of the Week honors.
Despite the loss this year, the Lakers have had recent success against the team that dubs its frenetic style "Tigerball" and leads the NAIA in scoring. Last year Roosevelt beat ONU in both regular-season meetings, including a 92-88 win at McHie on Jan. 23, 2013, proving that the Green and White have been able to slow down the Tigers before.
A change of scenery might do Roosevelt good in this case. The Lakers went 10-6 at the Goodman Center, but Roosevelt was even better away from their home confines with an 11-3 combined road and neutral-site mark.
Davis continues to be one of the nation's leading scorers, averaging 21.1 ppg to rate sixth in the nation.
