HAMMOND, Ind. – Abby Petroelje's 15-kill performance against host Purdue Calumet propelled the Roosevelt volleyball team to a sweep of the Peregrines and an eventual split on the day at the CCAC Crossover at Purdue Cal's Fitness and Recreation Center.
The Lakers swept Purdue Cal 25-18, 25-19, 25-11 before falling to reigning CCAC champion Trinity Christian in three sets, 25-13, 25-16, 25-19.
Roosevelt moved to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in CCAC play.
Petroelje led an unstoppable offensive attack against PUC (5-12, 1-5 CCAC). The Lakers registered 45 kills to just 14 errors for a .352 clip, highlighted by a whopping .607 attack percentage in the final frame after Roosevelt accumulated 19 kills and committed only two miscues in that last stanza.
Petroelje, a rookie out of Ada, Michigan, hit .542 by turning in her second-straight outing of double-digit kills and only misfiring twice.
Valerie Cutrone added 10 kills, Vanessa Owusu provided eight kills, and Marissa Minturn (19) and Emily Bejma (15) combined for 39 assists.
Against the Trolls (16-5, 7-0 CCAC), a side receiving top 25 votes, the Lakers were unable to replicate their offensive magic. The Green and White totaled 27 kills and committed 24 errors for the match, while Trinity Christian began the match with a 14-kill, one-error first-set showing and utilized that momentum to hit .308 for the contest and capture all three frames.
Five Roosevelt players had five kills against the Trolls.
Arielle Nausieda had double-digit digs in both bouts, finishing her day with 29 digs.
Roosevelt faces Olivet Nazarene and CCSJ on Saturday to conclude the Purdue Calumet CCAC Crossover.
